THE FRENCH LEGATION MUSEUM
802 SAN MARCOS STREET
AUSTIN, TEXAS
The Kitchen
The first kitchen of the French Legation was constructed as a separate building, which was destroyed by fire in 1880. A more modern kitchen was built as part of the Robertson addition, which was removed when the French Legation Museum was established. The current kitchen of the Legation is a reconstruction based on archeological evidence and careful historical research. When you have finished your visit here, you might want to go to the Mansion of the Legation or return to the start of the tour.

THE HEARTH Displayed around the hearth, where the actual cooking would have taken place, is one of the most extensive collections of antique French kitchenware in the United States. |

THE CLOCK The tall clock was made in Morbier, France, more than 150 years ago. It is wound once a week, and is run with a system of weights and a brass pendulum. A sparkling porcelain clock face makes this timepiece easy to read despite its age. |
