The French Legation Museum is centrally
located at 802 San Marcos Street in Austin and has easy access from Interstate
Highway 35 (I 35). Guided tours are available Tuesday through Sunday, from
1:00-5:00 p.m. (last tour begins at 4:15). Please call us at (512) 472-8180 for current information
about special events and to arrange for large group visits.
From I 35 Southbound
After you have passed the University of Texas and are in the downtown
area:
- Take the 8th-3rd Streets exit.
- After exiting the freeway, stay in the left-hand lane.
- Turn left (east) onto 7th street. You will want to be in the third
lane from the left of the street. The first two left-hand lanes exit
within a short distance.
- After crossing under the freeway, stay in the left lane.
- Turn left (north) at San Marcos. It is the first street going to the
left, just over the crest of the hill.
- The stone wall of the French Legation grounds starts on your left
in about a half block. You may park on San Marcos and enter the French
Legation grounds through one of the main gates, or take 9th street west
to the small parking lot on Embassy Drive. Additional parking is available
in the public parking lot under the freeway.
From I 35 Northbound
After you have passed the Colorado River and are in the downtown area:
- Take the 6th-12th Streets exit.
- After exiting the freeway, move to the right lane as soon as possible.
- Turn right (east) onto 7th street. Move to the left lane as soon as possible.
- Turn left (north) at San Marcos. It is the first street going to the left,
just over the crest of the hill.
- The stone wall of the French Legation grounds starts on your left in about a half block.
You may park on San Marcos and enter the French Legation grounds through one of the main
