An Evening Under the Oaks with Amy Cook
Friday,
April 11, 2008
Gates open at 6 pm, music at 7 pm.
$3 per person
Amy Cook is an
alternative-folk singer-songwriter with songs all over the teen drama
continuum (Dawson's Creek, Laguna Beach, Veronica Mars), but she grew weary
of the industry grind in 2005 and headed to Austin. On the way, she
stopped in Marfa and recorder The Bunkhouse Recordings, a full-length album
so intimate that Cook and her acoustic are backed by chirping crickets and a
restless dog. From her new album, The Sky Observer's Guide, she tells
simple, bittersweet, earthbound stories refracted throughout the panoramic
scope of the heavens. Cook has also performed at numerous venues
throughout Austin including the 2007 Austin City Limits Festival. Join
her on this special evening for a relaxing spring evening on the historic
grounds. Blankets, chairs, and picnics are encouraged and you may
bring beverages of your choice. OUTDOOR EVENT. RAIN OR SHINE.
A Brief Bio:"Amy Cook is a
human. She can be found wherever there is a huge sky full of stars and a
guitar. She is a lover and a fighter, in that order. She once lived in LA
for its charm and nostalgia, now she lives in Austin because that other
place lacked fireflies and a sense of hope. She is not altogether
self-assured and is a tiny bit sentimental. She tends to the garden of her
music in an old trailer sitting on the bluff of a river somewhere, or on the
front porch with sleeping dogs at her feet. Amy enjoys long walks on the
beach, cheap hotel rooms, fancy hotel rooms, freedom, every songwriter
trying to make a living, people who can say “I’m sorry,” and staying up late
listening to records with friends. If her songs were fabric, they would be
old and tattered and spun of fine silk in a faraway place. The rest I cannot
say. Amy Cook has tales to tell.”

An Evening Under the Oaks with Rachel Lynn
Friday, May 23, 2008
Gates open at 7pm, music at 8pm.
$3 per person
"Whenever Rachel Lynn sings, it's impossible not to stop, take notice,
and listen. Her style combines an urgently strummed acoustic guitar with
a dead-serious vocal tone." She is playing once again at the French
Legation Museum so join her on a summer evening on the cool green grass
under the cover of the historic oak trees for a compelling evening of
acoustic Folk/ Rock music. Blankets, chairs, and picnics are encouraged
and you may bring beverages of your choice. OUTDOOR EVENT. RAIN OR
SHINE.
