To start our tour, we present the exteriors of the main buildings of the French Legation Museum. Then you are invited to see the interiors of the Mansion of the Legation and the kitchen.

THE MANSION OF THE LEGATION Restored by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in the 1950s, the mansion of the Legation is built in the Anglo-French style. The unusual paired columns are a feature of French neoclassical architecture, seen in buildings like the Louvre in Paris as well as in the great houses of Louisiana. |

THE LEGATION KITCHEN Originally a completely separate building with a dirt floor, the Legation kitchen was destroyed by fire in 1880. More modern cooking facilities were then put in by the Robertson family as part of a new wing. Restorations in the 1950s removed the Robertson addition and rebuilt the Legation kitchen where the foundations of the original hearth had been discovered. |
